Like most of the major Australian Cities the Gold Coast is bustling with events throughout the year and tourism is strong during every month. Because of this it can be hard to decide when to book your holiday as so much is going on. The following calendar can be used as a brief guide as to what’s happening and when, so you can better plan your trip and book your cheap Gold Coast accommodation accordingly.
January
January is hot and exciting with lots of outdoor activities, music concerts and festivals. To take advantage of the weather early in January “Movies in the Park” takes place at Surfers Paradise offering the unique experience of watching a movie outside in a relaxed atmosphere whilst enjoying barbeque food. Perhaps the best music festival in the early months is Big Day Out, headlined by many mainstream artists.
February
The fun rolls on in to February, kicking off with the Chinese New Year celebrations and parade. Check in to the Broadbeach Precinct for all of the fun, including spectacular fireworks displays, or check out the free traditional Chinese entertainment at Surfers Paradise, including Kung Fu.
March
Surf’s up in March with the annual Quicksilver Australian Surf Life Saving Championships from Kurrawa Beach, featuring all the pro stars of the sport.
April
The main event in April is the joint Australian and New Zealand public holiday, Anzac Day, which marks the anniversary of the two country’s involvement in World War One. It’s not necessarily considered a fun and entertaining day, but you can learn a lot from the various marches and remembrance events if your holiday takes place around the same time.
May
May hosts the annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, which displays over 900 glorious boats and other watercraft, with the chance to explore and ride on some of them. Also in May is the Blues on Broadbeach music festival, which attracts over 200,000 people!
June
For the oldies in your group the annual Wintersun event is the biggest Rock & Roll Nostalgia Retro event in Australia and can be great for walking down memory lane. There are concerts as well as hot rod and classic car displays. Dressing vintage is a must for this show.
July
The often entertaining Gold Coast Airport marathon run can be great fun for spectators and if you’re the sporty type then why not join in? There’s also no harm in doing the run dressed as a big woolly rabbit.
August
August is the month for movie buffs as the Australian International Movie Convention rolls in to the city for a weekend full of independent raw talent and early screenings of future blockbusters.
September
Food is the focus on September with the Tastes of Broadbeach Festival, featuring a weekend of fine food, exquisite wine, art and entertainment.
October
What can you have in October other than Oktoberfest? This German inspired event features lots of beer, yodelling, shoe slapping and nail hammering.
November
Sport takes centre stage in November with the one week long Pan Pacific Masters Games, a multi-sport event featuring over 10,000 participants. You will see virtually all major sports and you can take part which is the whole concept of “Play It Live It Love It.”.
December
